Records from governors are slow in coming

Despite putting on a full-court press in the past year, state Archivist Christine Ward is no closer to getting a law passed that would legally require governors to turn over their paper, electronic and email records.

After lobbying, pleading and trying to cajole governors into complying at a major scholarly conference last May, the State Archives has received very limited material from the four most recent governors: Mario M. Cuomo, George Pataki, Eliot Spitzer and David Paterson.

A bill that was once again passed by both the Assembly and Senate was vetoed for the second time by former Gov. David Paterson in the waning days of his administration last year. [link to full article]
